Antique Pieced Lace Tea Cloth

Normandy Style

Item Number T22105

In the style of Normandy lace, this exquisite antique tea cloth was surely the crowning achievement of a seamstress and collector of antique handmade laces.  The outer border is pieced in mirror patterns with opposite sides being nearly identical.  The center panel is pieced in grand Crazy Quilt style with random and irregular shapes that harmoniously flow together like a large jig saw puzzle.  Every bit of the lace is handmade.  Examples include, Rose point de gaz, Brussels, Irish crochet, needlelace, filet, Cluny, bobbin laces and Valenciennes.  This is truly a work of art and a lace collector's dream.  Amazingly, I thought I saw a single tiny hole in a Valenciennes piece but could not locate it at photo time.  Near perfect condition, freshly hand laundered and pressed.  c.1880's  47" square

Antique Normandy style lace tablecloth, sized for tea or supper
