Antique  Fine Linen Sheet

Quadruple Monogram "EREG"

Item Number S24610

This softest antique linen sheet is surely of European origin of the finest long fiber flax linen --likely Italian as that is where so much of the finer linen was produced through the first part of last century.   The best linen was wet spun using the ancient hand method verses the more modern dry spinning method that was introduced in the late 19th century.  Wet spinning of long linen fibers produces the finest weave and the softest, most supple hand that is instantly cool to the touch.  This delectable linen is readily identified by textile aficionados (moi) who have experience dealing in finer European pieces.

This gorgeous antique linen sheet is hand drawn and monogrammed with the most professional and perfect Victorian block letters, "EREG".  The embroidery is padded and neatly worked and framed with two rows of Venetian drawn work.  A break in the drawn work near the side made me this is truly a chic but shabby tiny hole is also show below...  In good, useful condition (acres of fabric for cutting *gasp!*), freshly laundered and pressed.   c.1880's - 1900  94"wide X 91"long
