Antique European Linen Shams
Gorgeous Triple Monogram
Item Number P20206
Fine antique European linen is just different than domestic or contemporary linen. These softest antique linen shams are surely of European origin of the finest long fiber flax linen --they are likely French or Italian as that is where so much of the finer linen was produced through the first part of last century. The best linen was wet spun using the ancient hand method verses the more modern dry spinning method that was introduced in the late 19th century. Wet spinning of long linen fibers produces the finest weave and the softest, most supple hand that is instantly cool to the touch. This delectable linen is readily identified by textile aficionados (moi) who have experience dealing in finer European pieces...
Hand embroidered whitework lace is inserted above the monogram on each of these antique linen shams. The fabulous script monogram was professionally designed and embroidered by hand in an interconnected "HH" -- oh MY!! The buttonholes are hand sewn and close with hand wrapped linen thread buttons. Two very minor and easily overlooked spots of age, which will launder, are the only flaws, shown below. Extraordinary....the best! Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition. c.1890 - 1915. 29" wide X 32" high
