Vintage Marghab Embroidered

"Old France" Napkins and Placemats Set

Item Number M11006

Rare and beautiful Madeira embroidered Marghab placemats and napkins are clear sky blue linen with taupe embroidery in the "Old France" pattern.  These are so perfect they look chiseled instead of embroidered -- a close look reveals why Vera Marghab's designs were considered the best of Madeira embroidery during most of last century.  This regal pattern features a scalloped border which is punctuated at each turn with a crisp fleur de lis...ever-so French and so beautifully executed on the finest medium weight Irish linen.  Nearly perfect with minor age on two pieces and a bit of smudging on another, shown below, which will launder.  Absolutely stunning in person...Offered as found, in excellent condition.  c.1940's - 50's  6 Napkins -- 15.75" square  6 Mats -- 12.5" X 17.25"
