Antique Black Net Lace Lappet

Honiton Lace

Item Number L03405

The lace is made from Honiton and Point Lace braids that have been cleverly sewn into a delicate pattern of circles around the ends of this long antique net lace lappet.  Honiton and Point Lace braids of this type can be clearly identified on page 99 of Heather Toomer's work Antique Lace: Identifying Types and Techniques.  The lace butterfly has embroidered and needlelace details that make it an artful rendering of unmistakable beauty.  Delicate and feminine, it is jet black and nearly perfect except for several single breaks in the net, one shown below.  This piece is in excellent condition and is offered as found.  c.1860's - 80's   7" X 70"
