Italian Embroidered Linen

Pitcher Cover Doilies

Item Number D30107

Once upon a time, before the days of Tupperware and screened windows and such, pitchers of milk arrived at the table with a charming doily cover that kept the tiny critters out.  Often beaded or tasseled at the corners, as with these pieces, this ingenious design protected the contents of serving pieces until the meal began.

Medium to heavy cream Italian linen is beautifully embroidered in one corner and finished with Venetian drawn work at the edge with knotted tassels on each corner.  Today, these pieces  would charm the edge of a favorite shelf or even...protect the pitcher of lemonade at your next patio party, of course!  All are in excellent condition.  Freshly laundered and pressed, in excellent condition.  c.1900  Two sets of 2 -- one 9" and one 5", not including the tassels.
