Early Antique Society Silk

Embroidered Sampler Doilies

Item Number D26406

Fancy work embroidery, a parallel form to the society silk embroidery craze of the late 19th century, gave birth to all manner of needlework displays from Crazy Quilts to table linens.  These two amazing doilies done in sampler style represent many of the popular and unique stitches of the period, all embroidered in silk.  A sampling of needle woven fillings and mesh are included in both as well, suggesting these were done to demonstrate a variety of needle art skills.

Showing little to no wear except the smaller one has the faintest bit of age at the center.  These would be beautiful framed.  Absolutely beautiful work!  Freshly laundered and pressed, in near perfect, unused condition.  c.1880's  Small -- 6.5" X 7"  Large 7.5" X 8"
