Antique Silk Embroidered Velvet

Monogrammed Roman Catholic Communion Pouch

Item Number C37010

Simply the best...

***Thank you, Mary Lou, for your help on this piece!  She tells me that the symbols are specifically Roman Catholic and that this piece likely was a gift to a priest.  It might have been used to bring communion to a sick person...too large for Rosaries, she says.  The heart is called the Sacred Heart. Clearly, I was waaay off !

The embroidery is amazing...absolutely stunning piece....better in person! I'm sure there is special significance to the embroidery pattern..I am intensely curious.  Does anyone know?....looks Masonic to me. ***

It is fabulous and would make a wonderful little pillow.  The embroidered velvet is beautifully executed.  Offered as found, in excellent condition with respect to age.  c.1870 - 1900  9.5" X 13"
