Antique Society Silk Embroidery

Pink Mums Pillow top

Item Number C19405

Erroneously identified elsewhere as an Arts and Crafts convention, these pillowtop pieces are actually done in the society silk style.  Using the 19th century English Kensington stitch, each piece demonstrates the best techniques for shading and padding in embroidery designs that reflect realistic and natural elements.

Embroidered motto pillow tops were a favorite of Victorian embroideresses...their colorful patterns and whimsical sayings were cheerful and uplifting additions to everyday decor.  This stunning piece captures both the whimsy and the realism of the society silk embroidery style with the dancing spider mums and falling petals.  The shading contributes to both depth and realism....YUMMY...more beautiful in person (imagine!)..offered in excellent condition, as found.  c.1880's -- 1910.  20" X 20.5"
