Antique White Work Embroidered

Paisley Style Wedding Shawl

Item Number C13205

I about fell over when I found this piece thinking it was a table cover... The amazing details however, tell the story of a bride in love with Paisley patterns but desiring something in white for her wedding day.  Opposite corners of the is piece are perfectly designed and embroidered so that when folded the "right" side only shows.  There are two notches in the border that tell the wearer precisely where to fold her shawl for the perfect display every time.  The trim and fringes are hand knotted but are not without minor damage in several places.  There are areas of wear and several very fine small repairs.  Examples of these are shown below.  The embroidery is in perfect condition and exemplifies the classic paisley patterns of the early 19th century.  Chambray cotton with linen embroidery.  Freshly laundered and pressed, and in excellent condition with consideration for age.  c.1800 - 1830
